This study examines the experiences and needs of 91 service navigators, such as family navigators and community health workers, through surveys and interviews. Navigators rated all aspects of their work as very important, but their resource needs varied by location. There was a moderate association between self-efficacy and attitudes towards evidence-based practices (EBPs), with non-white navigators reporting less favorable attitudes than white peers. Interviews revealed that navigators value EBPs if they align with practical wisdom and have organizational and legislative support. The study suggests administrative and legislative strategies are needed to support and enhance the effectiveness of the service navigation workforce.
