This article sought to understand the role and function of village health volunteers in their communities, VHVs, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The author conducted in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with five VHVs from Nakhon Phanom, Thailand. Additionally, participating VHVs were observed conducting their routine functions, such as daily temperature screening. Overall, the author found that the work of VHVs, especially in more rural areas, is heavily dependent on strong connections and good relationships with community members. The author concludes, however, that more research with a larger sample size is needed to better understand the impact of community relationships on VHV performance.
