In India, where hypertension is a major issue, a study in Chhattisgarh trained 38,000 Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) to measure blood pressure and provide related advice. The training’s effectiveness was tested with two groups of CHWs from rural and urban areas. Results showed that most CHWs performed well in both skills and knowledge tests. Rural CHWs averaged a score of 7.79 in skills and 8.18 in knowledge, while urban CHWs averaged 8.11 and 8.82, respectively. This indicates that large-scale CHW training is feasible and effective. More efforts are needed to train and support the 1 million ASHAs in India to improve hypertension care.
