This community-based trial in New York City aimed to improve parents’ understanding of factors contributing to early childhood caries (ECC) through educational visits with community health workers (CHWs) using the MySmileBuddy program. Over a year, CHWs met with 1207 children and their parents to discuss caries prevention, with follow-ups conducted through various communication methods. Surveys showed that parents’ knowledge about caries risks, including salivary factors, hygiene, and diet, improved after the intervention. The study suggests the program effectively raised awareness but calls for further research on its impact on children’s caries outcomes.
