This study looked at how community health workers (CHWs) in India are paid and the challenges they face. Researchers interviewed CHWs, supervisors, and health leaders in two states and found that the payment process is complicated and often causes delays, extra work, and frustration. Even with digital tools, problems remained, but areas with good local leadership and organization saw better results. Fully digitizing payments made them faster and more transparent, which CHWs liked. However, using digital tools to record their work received mixed reactions. The study suggests ways to make CHW payment systems more simple and efficient, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
