Community health workers (CHWs) play a growing role in reducing health disparities in primary care, but there is limited information on how primary care practitioners (PCPs) interact with them. This study found that 55% of 1,504 PCPs reported working with CHWs, with engagement varying by certain demographic and practice-related factors. PCPs recognized that CHWs perform many important roles but also noted several challenges to fully integrating CHWs into care teams. These findings can help improve efforts to incorporate CHWs into primary care and advance health equity.
