In Uganda, HPV vaccine uptake among adolescent girls remains low, especially in urban poor settings. To address this, a pilot peer-to-peer education program was implemented in Kampala’s Kisenyi slums. Trained adolescent peer educators (APEs) shared health messages about the HPV vaccine with their unvaccinated peers, encouraging uptake. Over 12 weeks, 177 girls received the education, 145 expressed interest in vaccination, and 88 received their first dose. Peer support helped address fears and link girls to health workers, though parental consent remained a key barrier. The approach shows promise for improving HPV vaccine uptake and warrants further study.
