Partner in Health’s Program Management Guide discusses strategies to help organizations implement a CHW program to improve access as well as the quality of care that is provided in resource-limited areas. A CHW program can significantly improve health outcomes, particularly for the poorest members of the community. In PIH’s accompaniment model of care, patients build a trusting relationship with one CHW who will remain with them until healthy. In addition to direct accompaniment, the CHW role can be expanded to fit the needs of the surrounding population, whether through training, CHW management of a specific disease, directly observed therapy, or by CHWs serving the wider needs of the community as generalists
