While inpatient treatment is a proven method to treating neonatal bacterial infections, inaccessibility to them remains a common cause of death. This study evaluated provision of an antibiotic regimen for young infants with possible serious bacterial infection (PSBI) by CHWs in two districts in Tigray, Ethiopia. The authors conclude that young infants with PSBI can be managed appropriately in the community by CHWs in Ethiopia with high coverage, low treatment failure and a low case fatality rate.
