The aim of this study was to identify vaccination and serological status against hepatitis B among community health workers (CHWs). In addition, researchers vaccinated eligible CHWs against hepatitis B virus to evaluate the immune response of susceptible workers. The vaccination and serological status of CHWs was determined through a self-administered questionnaire, checking of vaccination cards, and blood collection for testing serological markers for hepatitis B. A Phase II cohort study was also carried out in vaccinated, non-immune workers identified in Phase I, which included one dose of vaccine and serological testing. Given outstanding susceptibilities identified in this population, this study highlights the need for surveillance programs to regularly assess vaccination and serological status against hepatitis B in CHWs, as a means of ensuring their overall health and safety.
