Community Health Workers (CHWs) are key to providing healthcare in underserved areas of sub-Saharan Africa but often struggle due to limited training and support. This study reviewed 55 studies on CHW supervision and support interventions from 2013 to 2024. It identified four main types of successful interventions: supervision, job aids, incentives, and training. Effective programs included factors like proper resource allocation, ongoing training, engagement with stakeholders, integration into existing systems, and supportive supervision. Leadership and environmental factors were also important. The study suggests that incorporating these elements can improve CHW program success and calls for more research on cost-effectiveness and long-term impact.
