Note: “Community Service Officer” in this context means health professionals including doctors, pharmacists and dentists, deployed by the government to do community service.
This study aims to assess retention determinants for health professionals to continue giving service in the district hospital after the one year community service programme. According to the study, the major determinants for the low level of retention are:
- · Opportunities for growth
- · Availability of basic equipments
- · Availability of supportive mentor
- · Availability of adequate staff
Remark:
– The studied group was composed only by the CS officers already in service – biased data
– Advantage: The set of determinants for retention was not pre-determined but rather listed after a first phase survey depicting major concerns of interviewees
