American Indian children face very high rates of tooth decay, with four times more untreated cases than white children. This study tested a community-led program called Great Beginnings for Healthy Native Smiles, which used culturally relevant materials and motivational conversations to teach families about oral health. Local community members led the program in two Indigenous communities. The results showed that when trusted community health workers shared tailored messages, families reported positive changes in how they cared for their children’s teeth.
