Learning Objective: COVID affects more than our health. The crisis has affected social connections, finances, access to food, housing, medical care and many other aspects of life. People who were disadvantaged before the pandemic will likely be hardest hit by these social, health and economic consequences. Community health workers –trusted laypeople from local communities—can provide virtual social support during the COVID pandemic. They can be a listening ear during a lonely time, help to arrange food delivery or utilities assistance, advocate with landlords, explain the changing rules for benefits, promote health behavior, reinforce COVID public health messaging and more.
