August 30, 2018 marked an important milestone for CHW Central. We reached 1000 resources! That’s 1000 sources of information about how to make CHWs effective in their work to expand access to quality health services for the poorest and most underserved populations in the US and across the globe.

These resources demonstrate that when properly trained and supported, CHWs improve the health and wellbeing of the populations they serve. Yet, as the numbers of CHWs rapidly expand across the globe, we still have a lot to learn about how to bring CHW programs to scale and make them sustainable.

Since 2011, CHW Central has been identifying and posting publications, white papers, reports, podcasts, webinars and other material that advances knowledge and understanding about CHWs and CHW programs.  These resources only make a difference if they are used,  and you have used them! Our most popular resources have been accessed thousands of times. These valued tools include:

• H. Perry et. al.’s Developing and Strengthening Community Health Worker Programs at Scale: A Reference Guide and Case Studies for Program Managers and Policymakers, with nearly 10,000 reads;
• The Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health’s Community Health Worker Training Manual,  accessed 6765 times;
• The Community Health Worker Code of Ethics Toolkit developed by Jacqueline Scott and Lauren Dunning of the Harrison Institute for Public Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, accessed over 5500 times;
• Henry Perry and Rose Zulliger’s comprehensive report How effective are community health workers? along with the U.S. Health Resources and Services; Administration’s  Community Health Workers Evidence-Based Models Toolbox which both have over 5000 reads.
• Newer resources may not have as many reads but are no less valuable. Check out the recently posted Case Studies of Large-Scale Community Health Worker Programs and Scott et. al’s article What do we know about community-based health worker programs? A systematic review of existing reviews on community health workers published this month in Human Resources for Health for just a few examples.

We know these and the other 990+ resources CHW Central offers have made a difference to you and to global efforts to make CHW programs more effective and sustainable.
